Renata Rudoy Introduction

Hello everyone!
My name is Renata and I’m currently pursuing my business degree at UAF eCampus. I attended UAF on campus back in 2009 for 2 years and decided to drop out. After 6 years I decided to go back to school and here I am with only 3 semesters left. My ultimate goal is to receive my bachelor’s degree (hoping I pass my 3 math classes *crosses fingers*) and to move forward into the Human Resource field.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY where I work and live at the moment. I don’t have much free time but when I do, I travel. I’m actually writing this post from my hotel in Dubai. It’s a bunch of fun, hot, and very different! I unfortunately don’t have any fur babies because I’m allergic. However, I do love fish & aquariums.

Glad to meet you guys! Hope everyone has a fantastic semester!

Farnes Introduction

Hello, my name is Brian Farnes, I currently live in Western Washington with my wife and two school-aged boys. I’m originally from Alaska, mostly Cordova but I’ve lived in several other places as well, including Fairbanks which is where I met my wife.

Currently I run the corporate safety program for a local video game company, and in my spare time I’ve been taking classes in the UAF eCampus HSEM program since they tend to be relevant to my job. I’m not actually in a degree program so these classes are purely out of personal interest on my part. This semester I’m taking the two classes in the HSEM program that are more focused on HR so it will be interesting to see how they compare to the internal programs offered by my company’s organizational development team.

Sarah Griffen-Lotz Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Sarah. I’ve been a UAF student since Fall of last year, and received an AA degree in art from the College of Alameda in Spring of last year. I’m a digital 3D artist, and have done some freelance work in this field. My goal is to earn a BA degree so I can find work at a creative studio as a 3D production artist. Ultimately, my long term career goal is to advance within a company and become an art director. This class interests me because of the way it examines structures within organizations, which I hope to work and eventually manage in one day.

I’m from Alameda, CA, but currently living in Concord, CA with my mother and husband. My mother is also a student in this class, she’s close to graduating. My husband works as a UX designer at a firm in San Francisco. One item on my bucket list is to travel to Paris to see the Louvre Museum.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

M. Beza Intro

Hello class,
My name is Manuel, I am a 20 year army retired vet. Have lived in Fairbanks for eight years thanks to the Army, for at least six of those years. Currently in the BAM program, with a couple of years to go. I am from Texas but love living in Alaska. Married with two kids, two dogs, and two bearded dragons. I love to be outdoors as much as I can. More so if I am mountain biking.

I was medic for 20 years and also managed multiple medical clinics within those 20 years. Dealing with a diverse group of people, you can see how the group dynamics can change from just one person. Looking forward understanding it more and learning from the rest of you.

Gallagher-Roach Introduction

Hello,

I am Frances Gallagher-Roach.   I was born and raised in New Jersey.   I am the youngest of 3 children.   I was raised in a “Leave It to Beaver’/’Ozzie & Harriette’ type of family.  Though that was my home life, I hung around some unsavory types of individuals.   My father was a social worker and at different points of his career he worked for a psychiatric hospital, owned and ran a home for troubled youth, was a prison director and specialized in counseling individuals with drug and alcohol addictions.   As a close-knit family, we traveled with and lived very close to the facilities he directed and owned.

I attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey and received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting & Auditing.   I really enjoyed the management side of the house but loved math.   Since I dislike science, I decided Accounting was the way for me.   At least I could follow the money trail.   When I matriculated in the 80’s the emphasis was not on the people side of the house but the mechanics of the profession and managing money was what I wanted to learn.

I have been married to the same wonderful man for almost 28 years and have lived 24 of those years in interior Alaska.   We met at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey.   We were both active duty at the time.   Since he saved me from sliding down a mountain, I had to marry him.  We raised our 3 children here and plan on staying for many more years.

I am currently an academic advisor and adjunct instructor for UAF/CTC campus.   I assist students who live, work or attend classes on the military installations:   Eielson and Ft Wainwright.   I have taught Business Math, Accounting Principles I, and Customer Service.   I teach face to face classes because I like the interaction with the students.

I have decided it is time to go back and get my Business Management degree.   Even though there are many choices, I have chosen UAF.  Simply because I believe in it.   I chose to use the eCampus because it gives me the freedom to work, teach, and travel.

The one thing I have always wanted to do was a hot air balloon ride for a day.   The idea of drifting in the air really appeals to my sense of adventure.

Phillip Boyle Intro

Hello Everyone,

My name is Phillip Boyle and I am currently a senior in Emergency Management and Homeland Security. I work for Alyeska Pipeline Service on the North Slope of Alaska as a Security Officer/ Paramedic. I have been in the emergency services for the past 15 years as a paramedic and firefighter. I have had the opportunity to work in several different places throughout my career spending time in Alaska, California, North Dakota, and Oregon I currently live in the small town of Homer on the Kenai Peninsula with my wonderful wife and four children.

Upon completion of my degree I hope to transition into disaster response and recovery at the state level or to continue to work for the oil companies as an incident response manager.

As far as the things that I enjoy, I am a typical Alaskan and enjoy my time outdoors and fishing with the kids and wife. During the winter we try to get in as much time as we can on the snow machines but lately it has been difficult with the lack of snow the past few years.

Bankston Introduction

Hi Everyone,

My name is Alison. I am a resident of Alaska. I am majoring in Business Administration and I will be finishing my degree online. I am the oldest of twelve children and just became an aunt this year. Bucket lists are not my thing, I’ve just never felt like I needed one. I would much rather just go out and do things “spontaneously” such as when the opportunity arises or presents itself to me.

I hope you all have a great semester.

Hopper Introduction

Hello,

My name is Dusty Hopper.  I have been in Alaska since 1989, and live in Sterling, Alaska with my wife and two daughters. We have really come to love fishing and hunting as a family. My wife and I have been able to harvest five caribou over the last 6 years with one of them being our oldest daughters first drawing tag up on the Denali  Highway. Last year we were able to get a nice bull moose on the Kenai  Peninsula. We also enjoy fishing, hiking, traveling, and camping. We are actively looking to add a dog to our family, but have not found the right fit yet.

I have been working in Prudhoe  Bay for 11 years. My current position is a Maintenance Planner at one of the Oil Processing  facilities which I plan, coordinate materials, determine the right time frame for performing  work, request additional resources if needed, call out third party vendors, build manning schedules, and until recently schedules the technicians at the plant I work at. I started out as a pipe insulator, and have transitioned into this role over the years I have spent in the field. I enjoy what I do, but I enjoy my time off from work even more. It allows me to spend more time with my family, and enjoy what Alaska has to offer.

I have been taking a break from school for the last several years. I was working the summers as a concrete finisher/mason, and attending classes at KPC and UAA for a BS in Biology in hopes of entering the WWAMI program. However, life had other plans. I started work in Prudhoe Bay, and decided that I would complete the Process Technology AAS. This helped me better understand the equipment and processes that I was working around. It also helped me enter the role I have now. After much thought and consideration I thought it was time to go back to school and complete my BS. This is my first semester back, and I am hoping to complete my BSATL by Winter Break 2020.

Thank you for your time,

~ Dusty

I live in North Pole Alaska with my husband and 3 fur babies.I am getting my BA in Homeland Security Emergency Management and after that one is done I am hoping to get my BA in business management.
